Robert Sauls Shepherd, 95, of Saluda, died peacefully at his home after a long illness on May 22,2015. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, his family moved to Savannah, Georgia, in his early childhood and Savannah became his home. Mr. Shepherd graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was privileged to serve as First Captain of the Corp of Cadets. He received numerous honors while at the Citadel including the Algernon Sidney Sullivan award. He was employed in the textile and garment industry in Rock Hill, SC and Saluda, SC until he established his own accounting and management business , Management Records and Associates in 1976, with offices in Greenwood, SC and Saluda , SC. Mr. Shepherd was a member of the United Methodist Church for 83 years. One of the joys of his life was teaching Sunday School for 45 years. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Betty Shepherd of the home , a daughter Liz Shepherd, numerous in laws, nieces and nephews and countless friends. Graveside service in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia will be Monday, June 1,2015. The family is at the home, 210 Neal Street, Saluda. The Family wishes to thank his home health nurse of many years, Allyson Martin and physical therapist Jenna Combs and the loving, caring nurses from Hospice Care of South Carolina, Saluda – Jane, Cindy, Beverly, Laura and Ben for their expert care. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund, St. Paul United Methodist Church ,102 Butler Avenue, Saluda, SC.
