Robert L. Hobgood LT. COL. ROBERT L. HOBGOOD 1919 – 2008 Lt. Col. Robert L. Hobgood, 88, of Pensacola, passed away March 17th 2008. He was a native of Kinston, NC, and a resident of Pensacola since 1975. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 32 years of proudly serving our nation. He graduated from The Citadel in 1940 and later earned his Master’s degree in business from the University of Michigan. During WWII he served as Squadron Navigator in combat and held a Master Navigator’s Rating. He also served in the Korean Conflict as a member of the 8th Bombardment Squadron. He had over 1200 hours of aerial combat time in WWII, Korea, and the Pacific. As a civilian, he worked in the tobacco business in North Carolina. In Bob’s retirement years, he became an avid gardener . He always had a beautiful vegetable garden with a large crop for his family to enjoy and to share with neighbors and friends. He loved to travel with his wife and explore new places. The mountains of western North Carolina were a favorite destination. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing and trips to the beach. Bob was a true North Carolinian who really enjoyed a good barbeque sandwich and cold slice of watermelon. Bob will be remembered for his love of family, great storytelling and dedication to his country. Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rebecca Jane; his five daughters, Susan Foreman of Crowley, LA, Linda Silecky of Pensacola, Brenda Pearson of Jonesville, NC, Bobbie Lewter of Gulf Breeze, and Carol Lee of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be held 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Barrancas National Cemetery with full Military Honors, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. In his honor, donations can be made to the American Red Cross, Trinity Presbyterian Church or Joyce Goldenberg Hospice, Pensacola, FL. VETERANS FUNERAL CARE is in charge of arrangements.
