Robert Glenn Larsen, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2012 at his home in Greenville, SC. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Ruth Gissell Larsen Rivers and her husband B.C. Rivers, his father Alexander R. Larsen, and his son-in-law William Strong. A native of Charleston, SC, he is survived by his adored wife of many years, Charline Williams Larsen, and four daughters and two son-in-laws: Kent and Rhonda McCorkle of Alpharetta, GA; Ellen Strong of Travelers Rest, SC; Charles and Cynthia McGill of Simpsonville, SC; and Elizabeth Larsen of Atlanta, GA; 5 grandchildren: Eric and Ryan McCorkle of Boston, MA, Charles McGill of Wilmington, NC, and Corinne and Robert Issac McGill of Simpsonville, SC; his two sisters and brother-in-laws: Brian and Linda Killingsworth of Hendersonville, NC; Marion and Dianne Valentino of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. Mr. Larsen attended the Citadel, served in the Navy as an aviator during WWII, and received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 1951, he married Charline Elizabeth Williams of Asheville, NC, his constant companion and love of his life. His career in textiles took him to North Carolina, Alabama and then to Greenville, SC. While in Alabama, he was a member of the Civitans and served as President and District Director. He had a lifelong love of nature and boating. After a career in engineering and management in the textile industry, he devoted his efforts to teaching boating safety, navigation, and advanced piloting through the Greenville Power Squadron. He served as local and District Commander of the Power Squadron and received recognition for 25 plus years of meritorious service to the organization. He blessed his family as a devoted and loving husband and father. The family is forever grateful to the many skilled and compassionate physicians and caregivers, the fire department at Duncan Chapel, and the in-home caregivers that made Bob’s quality of life the best it could be during his battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5, at 3 PM in the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 200 West Washington Street, Greenville, SC. The family will receive visitors in the church parlor following the service.
