Robert E Manning Jr, of Aiken, died unexpectedly May 5th at the Wellstar hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Bob, as everyone called him, was born in Suffern, New York on November 8, 1943, the 2nd son of Robert E Manning Sr. and Eva (Noetzle) Manning.
Bob attended local schools, Sacred Heart Elementary and then Suffern High School. He attended college at the Citadel where he graduated with a business degree, followed by military service in the US Air Force where he attained the rank of Captain. His assignments included a year in Vietnam commanding a maintenance squadron at the Bien Hoa airbase. On September 27, 1967, in Allendale, New Jersey, Bob married the love of his life, Joann Kennedy. When his military service was over, Bob and Joann relocated to South Carolina where he pursued a law degree at the University of South Carolina. When fate intervened and Joann’s father died, the couple moved back to New Jersey to help her family. In 2007, after years of living in Glen Rock, New Jersey, they moved to warmer Aiken, South Carolina where they built their dream and forever home. Unfortunately, their dream ended when Joann passed away in Aiken on April 25, 2013.
Bob is survived by his older brother Jon Manning of Claremont, New Hampshire, a younger brother Jeffrey Manning (Barbara) of Lewiston, New York, nephews Donald Manning (Heather) of Waldorf, Maryland, Justin Manning of Walpole New Hampshire and sister-in-law Gayle Carr (Dennis) of Wanaque, New Jersey.
