Robert Cheatham Thomas, 70, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Carole Hartley Witter Thomas died Sunday, August 3, 2014. The relatives and friends of Robert C. Thomas are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at St. Andrews Church Mount Pleasant, 440 Whilden Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Bobby was born May 10, 1944 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Harold Thomas, Jr. and Helen Cheatham Thomas. He graduated from the High School of Charleston, The College of Charleston and completed his education with an MBA from The Citadel. He was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club and the South Carolina Society. Bobby served in the United States Army and did a tour in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of St. Andrews Church Mount Pleasant. He began his career as a stockbroker in Charleston with Johnson, Lane, Space, and Smith and was most recently associated with Scott and Stringfellow Securities. He was known by his family and friends as the epitome of a Southern Gentleman who treasured his family. Bobby was also one of the founding members of the Original Creekside Garage Gang. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carole W. Thomas of Mount Pleasant, SC; two sons, Robert Carl Thomas (B.T.) Ph.D. of Mount Pleasant, SC and Captain John Peyre Thomas and his wife Elizabeth of Mount Pleasant, SC; brother, Harold Thomas III of Mount Pleasant, SC; two grandsons, John Peyre Thomas, Jr. and Ellison Scarborough Thomas; one granddaughter, Sidney Hasell Thomas; two sisters, Helen Thomas Rogers and her husband, Oliver, of Knoxville, TN and Mary Isabelle Thomas Watson “Rusty” of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boykin Spaniel Rescue, 106 W. Church Street, Greer, S.C. 29650-1902 or South Carolina Society, 72 Meeting Street, Charleston, S.C. 29401.
