Robert Andrew Williams, 97, of 1129 Costner Road, passed away July 7, 2008, at Hospice at Wendover. Mr. Williams was born Jan. 22, 1911, in Pickens County, S. C. to the late James Andrew Williams and Sara Caroline Kay Williams. He was educated in the public schools of Pickens County. He graduated from The Citadel in 1932 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and a commission as second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was later discharged with the rank of Captain. He wears five battle participation stars on his European Theatre ribbon and wears the Bronze Star ribbon rewarded him by the 3rd Army. Early in his life, he taught school in the public schools of South Carolina for ten years. He worked for the Southern Railway Co. as a civil engineer for 31 years. In addition to his parents, his wife, Geneva Moore Williams; a son, R.A. Williams Jr.; a daughter, Carolyn Derrick; two brothers, Braxton and Woodrow Williams and a sister, Edith Williams preceded him in death. Mr. Williams is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Edwin Beam of Shelby; four brothers, John Boyce Williams of Anderson, S.C.; James Daniel Williams of Walterboro, S.C.; Kirk Williams and Frank Williams, both of Easley, S. C.; two sisters, Melissa Looper of Easley and Lucretia Scarborough of Lilburn, Ga.; five grandchildren, Bill Derrick, Dee Derrick, Gena Clark and husband, Randy, Sally Agner, and husband, David and Pam Howell and husband, Norris; and six great-grandchildren, Brianna Fields, Rebecca, Laura and Kevin Agner and Sam and Abby Howell. Funeral: Wednesday, July 9, at 3 p.m. at White Oak ARP Presbyterian Church Visitation: The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m..
