Robert (Bob/Bobby) A. Ephriam of 1872 Jaywood Circle, Charleston, SC, passed away on June 2, 2010, at St. Frances Hospital. The family and friends of Robert Ephriam are invited to his Committal Service today, Saturday, June 5, 2010, 1:00 p.m., at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, Spruill Ave., N. Charleston, SC. Arrangements by FIELDING HOME FOR FUNERALS, 122 Logan St., Charleston, SC 722-3348 or 1-800-290-5954. Mr. Ephriam was born on July 14, 1932, to the late Joseph and Mary Humes Ephriam. He was a graduate of Burke High School (Salutatorian), South Carolina State College (full academic scholarship), the Masters Program at the Citadel and the Command and General Staff College of the United States Army. He began his teaching career at Howard High School in Georgetown, SC. After serving in the Army, including serving in Vietnam in the Adjutant General Corps, he became the Band Director at Chicora High School. He then served as Assistant Principal at Morningside Elementary School, Principle of Ellington Elementary and retired as Principal of Schroeder Middle School. He also retired from the US Army Reserve at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He began his musical career at the age of 12 which included touring with the Jenkins Orphanage Band, playing with several bands in the Charleston area and ending his career as a trumpeter and pianist for the Meandering Orange. He is survived by his beloved wife Vonnie H. Ephriam, father of Sandra W. Morris (Esaw), Tevera A. Ephriam and Vaughn Ephriam (Charmaine); grandfather of LaKeisha Morris, Kim Morris, Kenneth B. Thomas Jr., Justin M. Ephriam, Sterling A. Ephriam and Geoffrey Ephriam; great-grandfather of Selyna Williams and Marvin Hargrove Jr.; brother of Nathaniel (Joe) Ephriam (Beverly), Earl Johnson, Yvonne Gice, Rev. Bernard Johnson (Elaine), and Kenneth Johnson; mothers-in-law, Karthalimina Harper and Idell Harper; brother-in-law of John Harper (Berma), Steve Harper (Annette), Aaron Harper and Leroy Harper (Frances). The family wishes to thank Dr. Sarbabi Masindet, Dr. Eni Okonofua, Dr. Kassamo Dayemo and Dr. Courtney Fisher; Nurses Tovy, Faith, Cookie and Mary of St. Frances Hospital; Home Health nurse Maria Livingston; and care-givers, Annette Duncan Sims, LaQuan Freeman and Anthony Willis for the excellent long-term care given to Mr. Ephriam.
