Funeral service for Ripley Westmoreland Clarkson, of Winnsboro, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro, South Carolina. A graveside service will follow in First United Methodist Church Cemetery on East College Street. Mr. Clarkson was born July 21, 1953, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Honorable Nathaniel Heyward Clarkson Jr. and Mrs. Margaret Westmoreland Clarkson. He was a graduate of Hammond School and a 1975 graduate of The Citadel. After two years of military service in the Unites States Army, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Mr. Clarkson also served in the J.A.G. Corps in the United States Army Reserve. He was an assistant attorney general for the State of South Carolina. Surviving are his wife; Elinor Wylie Clarkson; two sons, Wylie Westmoreland Clarkson and his wife, Andrea McElveen Clarkson, Blair Childs Clarkson; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Westmoreland Clarkson of Columbia; a sister, Eugenia Clarkson Brabham and her husband, Angus McKay Brabham III, of Columbia; a brother, Nathaniel Heyward Clarkson III and his wife, Helen McKay Clarkson, of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to The Citadel, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409.
