Richard H. “Dick” Roth, 85, of St. Augustine, passed away on Jan. 31, 2016, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring, surrounded by his family. Born in New York City, Dick grew up in both New York City and Red Bank, New Jersey. He graduated from The Citadel in 1953 and served his country in the U.S. Army with the occupying force in Germany. After his discharge from military service, he attended the University of Virginia Law School, where he graduated in 1958. Dick settled in Broward County, Florida, where he established his law firm in Pompano Beach. He was in practice there for 50 years, and for 27 of those years he also served as the City Attorney for Lighthouse Point, Florida. Dick was a member of the Florida Bar Association for more than 50 years and also was a member of the Montana Bar. He belonged to the Exchange Club in Pompano Beach, serving as president. He was a member and president of the South Florida Orchid Society and also the president and member of the Ft. Lauderdale Orchid Society. Upon relocating to St. Augustine in 2000, Dick became a charter member of the St. Augustine Orchid Society and also was an active member and legal counsel of the Navy League of the U.S. St. Augustine/Palm Coast Council. In retirement, Dick was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan (Martindale) Roth, of St. Augustine; daughters, Lt. Col. Terri Oswald and her husband Frank, of Missouri, Cindy Maletta and her husband David, of Pennsylvania, and Karen Beville and her husband Ray, of Crystal River, Florida; sons, R. Kevin Mann, of St. Augustine, Richard J. Roth, of Ft. Lauderdale, Joseph A. Roth of Palmetto, Florida, Keith D. Roth, of Missouri, and William Roth and his wife Christie, of Deltona, Florida; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home, with the Rev. Morton Estep officiating.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
