Richard Garrie Murphy, 81, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Richard was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on June 11, 1936, the son of John and Corrine Murphy. Richard married Margaret E. Murphy on March 31, 1958, in Waterbury, Connecticut at Blessed Sacrament Church. A proud graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Class of 1958, it was Richard’s great honor to serve his country in the United States Air Force for 11 years, followed by a lengthy and distinguished career in finance. Richard, known as “Pops” to his grandchildren, was a man of strength, courage, and devotion. His mettle and fiery determination was unparalleled. He showed bravery and fortitude at every point in his life, especially during his recent illness. Richard stoically fought to be a pillar for his family, consistently devoting his life to the service of family, country, and faith. Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, hope, and tenacity, and his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Richard is predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret, and is survived by his five children and their spouses, Garrie and Patricia Murphy, Timothy and Mylene Murphy, Elizabeth and James Webb, Christopher Murphy, and Sean Murphy and Jeffrey Bower. Richard is also survived by his six grandchildren, Lauren and Amanda Webb; Liam, Conor, and Molly Murphy; and Lukas Murphy. There will be a mass to celebrate Richard’s life at St. Patrick Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Road, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on Friday, March 16 at 11:00AM, Father Aidan Lacy will officiate.
