PALMYRA – Richard Edward Dieterich of Palmyra, Va., died on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007. He was 52. Richard grew up in Munster and Hammond, Ind., the son of Alvah and Marilee McLeod Dieterich. He attended Munster High School and Admiral Farragut Academy in Tampa, Fla., and graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He was for a number of years involved with Calumet Construction Company and was later employed by Onsite Computer, LLC in Merrillville, Ind. Richard retired from the computer industry in 2005 and became an alpaca breeder, forming Adventure Farm Alpacas, Inc. in Palmyra, Va. He is survived by his wife, Susan Woodward Dieterich; his sons, Brent Palmer, Eric Dieterich and William Dieterich; his daughters, Elizabeth Palmer MacKenzie, Emily Dieterich Brown and Jennifer Dieterich; his sons-in-law, Daniel Brown and Jason MacKenzie; his grandchildren, Jada Palmer, Jonathan MacKenzie, Rachael MacKenzie and Lilianna Brown; his cousins, Dennis Fandrei and Keith Fandrei; and his former wife, Pamela Lovell Whyte. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Hermitage Museum in Norfolk. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC 29409, or to the Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church, 110 East Queen St., Hampton, VA 23669.
