Richard Charles Marsh, “Dick,” of Upperville, Va., and Shepherdstown, passed away at his home on April 30, 2013. Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine; his daughter, Virginia Lynn and her husband, Donald Nuckols; and three grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Elise, Ashlynn and Kimberly. Col. Marsh graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., with a degree in Civil Engineering and from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He also attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., receiving a master of Science Degree in International Affairs. Col. Marsh was on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corp for 22 years, serving in the Korean War and was commanding officer of a fighter squadron in Vietnam. After retiring from the Marine Corp, he worked in the field of aerospace engineering for several companies. A celebration of Dick’s life will be held in his honor and inurnment at The Citadel Columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Citadel Alumni Association at 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409 or to the American Heart Association.
