Richard Carlton Givens, Sr., P.E., 80, of 709 Small Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died at his residence, Tuesday, January 06, 2009. He was born in Charlotte, NC to the late Willis Richard and Lillian Carlton Givens. Mr. Givens was a retired electrical engineer and a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabeth City. He is survived by his wife, Kay Hare Givens of the home, two sons, Jeffrey Givens and wife, Deborah, of Philadelphia, PA and Richard C. “Rick” Givens, Jr. and wife, Salima, of Naples, FL; one sister, Mary Willis Kelly of Orlando, FA, two grandchildren, Nina Givens and Ryan Givens. He is also survived by two brother and sister-in-laws, Jim and Anne Hare of Tyner, NC and Joe and Joan James of Elizabeth City, NC. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 11:00am in the First Baptist Church by Rev. Mason Smith. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends and relatives in the church’s social hall immediately following the service and at other times at their residence.
