Raymond Charles Brown, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of Friday, October 2, 2009, Raymond Charles Brown. Residence, Charleston, South Carolina. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial services in The Summerall Chapel at The Citadel Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at ten o’clock. A reception and celebration of Ray’s life will follow in the office of David M. Gilston Insurance Agency, 15-A Gamecock Avenue, Charleston, SC. Burial services will be conducted later. Mr. Brown was born May 14, 1942, in Jamaica, New York, a son of the late Charles Raymond Brown and the late Emma Marion James Brown. He was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1965, and received his Masters Degree from Missouri State. He served in the U.S.A.F. as a Second Lieutenant. Ray was employed as an insurance agent for David M. Gilston Insurance Agency for 33 years. He held a Coast Guard Captain’s License, was a former Guidance Director, Teacher & Principal at Charleston High School, and a former Medical Health Associate for the Department of Psychiatry at MUSC. Mr. Brown was a past member of the National Education Association, South Carolina Education Association, American Psychological Association, American Association of Mental Deficiency, Sons of the American Revolution, Charleston Mental Health Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield Presidents Honor Council, life member of The Association of Citadel Men, and an active member of the Doc Williams S.P.C.A. He is survived by three cousins, Doris Connolly of Portland, OR, Elaine Abel of Old Saybrook, CT and Eleanor Baccari of Clinton, CT; five great-cousins; three great-great-cousins; oldest and dearest friend, Edward “Eddie” Orvin and his beloved dogs, Cricket, Spanky and Emma.
