AUGUSTA, Ga. – Raymond Alexander Zobel, Sr., age 93, beloved husband of Winifred A. Zobel for 61 years, entered into rest Monday, October 4, 2004 at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 1 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church with the Reverend Renea D. Slater and the Reverend Dermon Sox officiating. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Zobel was a structural engineer and had lived in Augusta since 1956. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, a graduate of the Citadel and a member of St. John United Methodist Church. Additional survivors include two sons, Raymond Alexander, Jr. and wife, Karen, of Panama City Beach, Fla., Steven A. Zobel and wife, Trudy, of Summerville, S.C.; one daughter, Deborah Alford and husband, Gary, of Martinez, Ga.; two sisters, Helen Sox and Lucile Braid, both of Orangeburg, S.C.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Wise, Panama City Beach, Fla. , Michelle Cochran, Rome, Ga., Rebecca Dunlap, Meredith Zobel and Allison Zobel, all of Summerville, S.C. and one great-grandchild, Jackson Wise. Pallbearers will be Paul Zobel, Jeremy Dunlap, Ralph Zobel, Walter Bryant, William Zobel and Mark Cochran. If so desired, memorials may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 736 Greene Street, Augusta, Ga. 30901. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2004 from 6 -8 p.m. at Elliott sons Funeral Home, 1134 Telfair Street, Augusta, Ga. 30901.
