Randall Lee Clark (Randy) 63, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 11, 2013, surrounded by family and friends after a short illness. Randy was born on March 15, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Eugene L. Clark and Dorothy Schoemer Clark. In 1961 his father moved the family to Chicago Heights, Illinois. He graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights in 1968 where he was an all-region basketball player. He played basketball for two years at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan and transferred to the College of Charleston in 1970 where he played under Coach Alan LeForce and was a member of the Alpha chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Political Science in 1973. He then coached and taught at Bishop England High School in Charleston from 1974-1976. He began his coaching career at Porter-Gaud in 1976 while working at the College of Charleston. The following year he accepted a teaching position at Porter-Gaud in the middle school under the wise guidance of Principal Ted (the MAJE) Richardson. He received his Masters in School Administration from The Citadel in 1983. Upon The Maje’s retirement, Randy became Middle School Principal in 1992, a position he has held until the present time. He served as varsity basketball coach for 26 years compiling a 453-232 career record, three straight SCISA state championships (2003-05), and two state runner-up finishes. He was honored as region coach of the year six times and SCISA state coach of the year five times. He also served as assistant basketball coach at the College of Charleston from 1986 – 1988. Porter-Gaud athletics experienced unprecedented levels of success throughout his five year tenure as Athletic Director from 1995-2000, during which the time the school was awarded it’s first ever President’s Cup for top overall SCISA program in 1997 and winning again in 1998. In 2010 he was inducted into the Porter-Gaud/Porter Military Academy Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Kinville Clark, two sons, Eric Randall Clark (Jennifer) of Charleston, South Carolina; Jonathan Lee (Jonny) of Charlotte, North Carolina, a granddaughter Locklair (Lola) Clark of Charleston, South Carolina, a brother Gary E. Clark (Merrie) of Greenville, South Carolina, a sister, Kassandra L. Astor of Chicago, Illinois, an aunt and an uncle, a niece, several nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Wendell Center on the campus of Porter-Gaud School at 300 Albemarle Road, on Friday, November 15 at 4:00 p.m. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery will be private.
