Peter, son of the late John N. Zervos and Catherine Calamas Zervos, was born March 18, 1934 in Augusta, Georgia. Peter moved to Charleston to enroll at The Citadel where he graduated in 1956. He was a proud alumnus of the Long Gray Line and some of his fondest memories were seeing his sons and grandson follow in his footsteps and awarding them their Citadel diplomas. After graduation and a three-year stint serving as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, Peter returned to Charleston, where he would remain to raise a family and enjoy a successful professional career. Peter joined Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company and was a perennial leader. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table and was elected President of the 1982 MassMutual Agent’s Association.
Peter was a long-standing, faithful member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He served on the Parish Council for a number of years and he, along with his brother, Nick, was instrumental in starting the Greek Festival in 1970. In one of his final gifts of service, Peter proudly led the development of the Theotokos Garden – a place for the Church and community to share in reflection, fellowship and worship.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Gelegotis Zervos; his brother, Nicholas J. Zervos (Angie); his son, Michael W. Zervos; his daughters, Kathy Zervos Dominey (Roger) and Elizabeth Zervos Mann (Chris); his daughters-in-law, Sarah Wooten Zervos and Linda Laney Zervos. He adored all ten of his grandchildren: John Dominey (Sarah), Wooten Zervos, Catherine Dominey, McNair Zervos, Michael Zervos, Paul Dominey, Peter Zervos II, Carolyn Zervos, Mary Catherine Mann and Jasper Mann.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Peter Zervos.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peter’s name to the Theotokos Garden, Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or Lutheran Hospice, 1885 Rifle Range Road #46, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464.
