Lt. Col. Peter Allen Kunze, U. S. Army (Ret.), 61, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Valerie Harrawood Kunze entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 7, 2013. His Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 11, 2013 in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 95 Folly Road, at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Allen was born December 4, 1951 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Albert J. Kunze, Jr., The Citadel ’44 and Jewell Bee Kunze Thompson. He attended Porter Military Academy, St. Andrews High School, The Citadel ’73, Troy University and Trident Technical College. He was a commissioned officer in the U. S. Army from 1973 until 1994. At The Citadel, he was a 1973 Summerall Guard. He completed the Infantry Officer’s Basic Course, Transportation Officer’s Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, Inspector General’s Course and many other schools in the Army. He served in Virginia, Georgia, Germany, Korea, Italy, Kansas and New Jersey. Assignments included the 8th Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division and 24th Infantry Division. He served in leadership positions from platoon to battalion command level. Upon retirement, he started Charleston’s Finest Hardwood Floors, Inc. in 1997. He was a life member of The Citadel Alumni Association and a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Kunze; two daughters: Laura Richardson (Gary) of Riceboro, GA, Caroline White (Jeff) of Manhattan, KS; two sons: Peter A. Kunze, II of Manhattan, KS, Shawn Edge (Desi) of Cottageville, SC; two brothers: Albert J. Kunze, III, The Citadel ’76 (Sandy) of Wando, SC, Christopher M. Kunze, The Citadel ’81 of Summerville, SC; eleven grandchildren; one niece and two nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol K. Pinta.
