Peple McGuire “Mac” Burton, Jr., of Charlotte, NC, was born on January 31, 1940 in Suffolk Virginia. He was a member of The Citadel Class of 1961 with a degree in Political Science. He served in the Marine Corps from 1963-1970, which included service with distinction as an artillery Captain in the Vietnam War. His tour of duty in Vietnam led him to serve his country bravely in the Battle of Khe Sanh. His final duty assignment was as a tactical officer stationed at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Mac had a professional career in fundraising and development. While he was Head of Development at Tucson Medical Center, he was President of the American Cancer Society for the state of Arizona. He held other leadership positions in development at Medical University of South Carolina, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, SC.
Mac passed from this world to be with His Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by Sally, his loving wife of almost 18 years, and his precious caregivers. Mac is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Sally; his sister, Gene; his son, Jeb Burton, daughter-in-law Kirsten, their children, Abby and Mason, from Scottsdale, Arizona; and by his step-daughters, Amanda Kingsbury (Seth), Cooper Biersach (Jeff) and his step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and William, all of Chapel Hill, NC.
