Paul Myers Snell Jr., 85, of Wilmington, NC, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center. He was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Southport, son of Annie Elizabeth St. George “Sug” Snell and Paul Myers “Pappy” Snell. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1943, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. In 1949, he graduated from The Citadel with a degree in civil engineering. He was the owner of Snell Engineering and Construction Co. in Fayetteville until his retirement. He was a resident of Fayetteville for 60 years, was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and Highland Country Club, and served on the board of The Salvation Army. He is survived by his daughters, Catharine St. George Snell Robbins of Raleigh and Eleanor Myers Snell Johnston and husband Steve of Wilmington; grandson, Paul Lee Robbins of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Mary Devane “Pinky” Snell of Chevy Chase, Md.; brother-in-law, William Henry Skeels of Burlington; five nieces; two nephews; six great-nieces; seven great-nephews; and many cousins, including William Ross St. George of Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor Skeels Snell; and his brother, Thomas Mason “Tommy” Snell. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010, in Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville. Family members will remain at the grave following the service to visit with friends.
