Paul Arthur Deming, 54, of Smithfield, Va., passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2013. He was born in Yonkers, New York on July 15th, 1958. He grew up in Valhalla, New York and graduated from Valhalla High School where he inaugurated the Viking mascot at the weekly football games. He graduated from The Citadel Military College in 1980 with a major in accounting and a minor in walking tours. He was commissioned in the Air Force and served assignments in Oklahoma and Ohio. He served as a United Nations Peacekeeper in Western Sahara before separating from the Air Force in 1994. He passed the CPA exam and worked in various accounting jobs, most recently at Portsmouth Public Schools in Portsmouth, VA. Paul was an all-sports trivia champion, a life-long Yankees fan, a golfer who loved a good game of “”skins””, and an avid bowler – forever chasing that elusive 300. He was known for his quiet sense of humor and witty remarks. He was a loving, ever-present and supportive father to his three children, Jack, Lauren and Miller. Paul is survived by his three wonderful children, Jack Arthur Deming of Barboursville, VA, Lauren MacBean Deming of Roanoke, VA, and Miller Murray Deming of Carrollton; his ex-wife and friend, Nancy Deming-May of Carrollton; his parents, Larry and Shirley Deming of Ocean City, NJ, his brother Ken (Carol) of Valhalla, NY; sister Pam (Jeff) Gray of Monroe, NY; sister Liz (Scott) Mosley of N. Providence, RI, and many loving nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. Family and friends will gather 4-5pm, Saturday, January 19, in Colonial Funeral Home, for visitation. A service celebrating Paul’s life will be held at 5pm, with Pastor Jeff Cannon officiating. Visitation will follow the service till 6:30pm. Burial will be private.
