Ogden Stokes, a native of Nashville, TN, was the son of the late Mabel and Jordan Stokes III. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Stokes, Nashville; their daughter, Demitri Bowen (Scott); three granddaughters, Sydney, Kelsey, and Whitney; and his brother, McNeill Stokes. He attended Clemmons School, the school at the Davidson County Children’s Tuberculosis Hospital, Peabody Demonstration School (now University School of Nashville), and Hillsboro High School. He graduated from The Citadel, Charleston, SC, with a major in Physics. After serving an active duty tour in the United States Air Force, he attended Vanderbilt University and received a Masters Degree in Physics. He was employed in 1962 as a computer systems analyst and later with the Mission Control Division of NASA. He attended Vanderbilt University Law School, graduating in 1968. After serving as an attorney with the Nashville Metropolitan Department of Law, he entered private practice and later co-founded Stokes & Bartholomew. He was the fifth consecutive member of his family to serve as a lawyer before the Bar of Nashville, as his GG Grandfather, Jordan G. Stokes joined the Nashville Bar in 1838. In accordance with the request of the deceased, no public ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Nature Conservancy or a charity of your choice. Ogden lived a life filled with adventure from parachuting and scuba diving to trekking in the Himalayas. He was almost 87 when he died. As Ogden said on several recent occasions considering the vicissitudes of old age that was long enough.
