- McManus became CEO and President of Hardee's, a restaurant chain with franchise operations in 40 states and 11 foreign countries in 2000.
- He founded and was Chairman of Mountain 1st B&T in Hendersonville, NC, President of McManus Development, LLC (commercial/residential), and President of McManus Real Estate. McManu owned two Henry's Restaurants and the Beacon Drive-In Restaurant, a South Carolina landmark located in Spartanburg, SC.
- McManus served in the USAF after graduation and then accepted a starting position at Hardees, rising to be CEO and President. He credits much of his success to applying The Citadel's core value of respect to all.
