- Chief of Joint Staff, Royal Thai Armed Forces. Hongstong held the rank of General, Admiral, Air Chief Marshall, 1998-2000.
- Upon retirement Hongstong was named Advisor to the Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. He also served as Chairman of the Security Committee of the Thai National Legislative Assembly.
- During Hongstong's service in the Royal Thai Army, he served in Korea, Cambodia, Laos, and the long struggle against communist insurgency in Thailand. His military awards include two US Legion of Merit's-Degree of Officer and Degree of Commander.
