- Cavezza's career included two combat tours in Vietnam, earning 2 Silver Stars, a Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He held Command of I Corps, Fort Lewis, Washington, Command of Fort Ord, California, Assistant Commander, 82d Airborne Division, and was Commanding General, United States Army Infantry Center and School Fort Benning, Georgia. Cavezza retired from the Army in 1994.
- Cavezza earned an M.A. degree in government from the University of Miami, an M.S. degree, and a Ph.D. degree from George Washington University. In 1997 Cavezza accepted the position of City Manager of Columbus, GA.
- A nationally known speaker on "Leadership," Cavezza became Executive Director of the Cunningham Center for Leadership Development also located in Columbus, Georgia, in 2008.
