- Figg founded and was President of Figg Engineering Group, one of the world's largest bridge builders. During his career, Figg made numerous contributions to the field of structural engineering, especially in the design of the cable-stayed bridge and use of segmental concrete. Figg valued his education at The Citadel, saying that "it was The Citadel system more than anything else which allowed me to compete in the business world. At The Citadel I learned the value of time plus leadership and discipline."
- One of the world's foremost designers of bridges from 1970-2000, Figg received numerous honors. Engineering News Record named him one of only 10 designers to make a difference in bridge design in 125 years. The International Bridge Conference awarded Figg the John A Roebling medal for lifetime achievement in bridge engineering, and the American Society of Civil Engineers presented Figg their pre-eminent award, the OPAL Award, for Outstanding Projects and Leadership. He is memorialized by the International Bridge Conference award, the Eugene C. Figg Jr. Medal for Signature Bridges.
