Charles Daniel

- U.S. Senator from SC, 1954.
- Daniel attended The Citadel for 2 years, before serving as a lieutenant in the Army infantry during World War I. He never attended another college.
- Together with his brother Hugh R. Daniel class of 1929, Daniel founded and developed Daniel International Construction Corporation, which at one time was the largest construction company in the world.
- President Kennedy awarded him the "Industrialist Of The Year" Award in 1963, and he received honorary degrees from The Citadel, Clemson, Furman and Lander College.
- The Thomas Dry Howie Memorial Carillon on The Citadel campus was erected by Daniel and his brother Hugh R. Daniel Class of 1929, in memory of their classmate killed in World War II.
- The Citadel's Danial library is named in honor of both Charles Daniel and his brother Hugh R. Daniel Class of 1929, for their many contributions to The Citadel, including the donation of the Daniel building in Greenville, SC in 1980, which was the largest gift any college in the nation had received up to that time.
