  • Moore is one of the pioneers of Marine Corps aviation and is most noted for his service commanding the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, and Commanding General of Aircraft FMF, Pacific, during WWII, for which he received the Army Distinguished Service Medal.
  • Moore's true life character as deputy commander, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and immediate superior of Pappy Boyington, commander of VMF-214 (aka "Black Sheep") during WWII, was depicted in the 1970s TV series "Baa-Baa Black Sheep."
  • Moore's father, William Moore class of 1888, is on the Notable Alumni List.
