LtJG Charles Eichenberger, USN
Class of 1941
Attended The Citadel for 2 years before enlisting in the US Navy in 1939. He earned his aviator wings in 1941, shot down and lost on 12 Sept 1942 during the battle for Guadalcanal. His actions on that day in support of US forces prompted the Navy to christen and launch a Destroyer in his honor at Charleston Navy Yard 22 July 1943.
