William E. Gonzales

- US Minister to Cuba (1913-1919).
- First US Ambassador to Peru (1920-1922).
- Gonzales attended The Citadel for 2 years before leaving to work at the Charleston News and Courier. In 1892, he joined the State Newspaper which his family had founded. Gonzales served as editor, publisher, and president of The State Newspaper.
