Capt Walter C. Goodpasture, USMC
Class of 1940
Captain Goodpasture, was on Leave and in attendance at the Coconut Grove restaurant in Boston in December, 1942. One of the most famous fires in U.S. history that claimed over 450 lives, Capt. Goodpasture is documented to have saved the lives of twenty people helping them to escape the blaze by standing under a window and lifting them out to safety, only to succumb to smoke and die. Documents reveal that his actions actually saved many more than the twenty that were recorded.
