J. B. Patterson
Class of 1866
Serving as a member of the famous Battalion Of State Cadets he was the only cadet killed in the battle at Tulifinny Creek, Dec. 7, 1864. This battle is the only time in US history that the entire student body of a college engaged hostile forces in combat. During the war, a total of 31 Citadel Cadets (students who had not resigned and were still cadets)) died in battle, or from wounds/illness suffered while engaged in combat.
