- Broadwater's military service included serving as Chief of Staff, European Command, 2004-2006. Commanding General, US 1st Army, 2001. He served as a key advisor and staff member at the highest echelons: Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff; Headquarters, US European Command; Joint Headquarters Centre, NATO, First United States Army Headquarters, III US Corps and Fort Hood. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Lt. General Broadwater commanded operations in Turkey and Northern Iraq.
- Upon retirement from the Army he assumed the post of President, American College of the Building Arts in Charleston, SC, a very unique 4 year private liberal arts and science college offering a Bachelors of Applied Arts degree in the Building Arts. Programs offered included timber framing, architectural carpentry, plaster working, preservation masonry, blacksmithing (forged architectural iron) and architectural stone carving.
