  • Commandant, Georgia Military Institute 1852-1854
  • Superintendent of LaGrange College and Military Academy in Lagrange, Alabama (1858-1862)
  • Organized and elected colonel of the 35th Alabama Infantry Regiment CSA. The regiment was mustered into Confederate service March 12, 1862, and participated in several battles including the Battles of Shilo and Vicksburg.  Robertson was seriously wounded at the battle of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
  •  Due to his injuries, Robertson transferred to the Engineer Corps, where he directed the building of fortifications in Alabama, SC and Florida  
  • After the War, Robertson served as chief engineer for a number of railroads 
  • Georgia Railroad Commissioner 1890-91
  • Adjutant-General of Georgia 1900-1903
