Nancy Louise Welsh, 71, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Samuel C. Welsh, died Saturday, January 16, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016 in the Rodenberg Chapel (Franke at Seaside), at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Nancy was born June 28, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late William Carpenter MacLean and the late Joyce Wood Mundt. Nancy obtained her degree in Elementary Education from Skidmore College in 1966. Later she received her Masters Degree from The Citadel in Special Education with the emphasis on Learning Disabilities. In 2006 she was named a South Carolina Independent School Association Master Teacher. For over 30 years, Nancy taught at Trident Academy in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Nan and Sam were active hikers with the Carolina Mountain Club whenever they stayed at their cabin retreat in Asheville, NC. Closer to home, they both enjoyed kayaking in the waters near Bulls Bay. Nan especially enjoyed being with her “sisters” at Drawing Near to God meetings. In addition to her husband, Sam, she is survived by her son, Derk VanRaalte IV (Lisa) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Julia VanRaalte of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Judith MacLean Ritter (Ulrich) of Kronberg, Germany; brother, Drs. William C. MacLean, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Columbus, OH; and her first husband, Derk VanRaalte III of Kingstree, SC. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society , 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, N.
