Elwood Everton Davis Sr., 76, of the 5900 block of Sellger Drive, died October 6, 1999, in Chesapeake.
Born in Portlock, Norfolk County, he was retired from the U.S. government as a licensed civil engineer with Tactical Air Command. Mr. Davis was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk and a former member of Society of Professional Engineers and Society of Military Engineers. A graduate of the Citadel, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Kerr “Peggy” Davis; a daughter, Melanie Davis Poole and her husband, J.C., of Atlanta; two sons, Elwood E. ”Chris” Davis Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Paul A. Davis and his wife, Trish, of Blacksburg, Va.; a sister, Wilma F. Davis of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Alexis Davis, Andrew Davis, both of Lawrenceville, Ga., Stuart Poole, Jonathan Poole, both of Atlanta. He was predeceased by his parents, Mabel Ferebee Davis and W.Y.E. Davis.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Norfolk by the Rev. Dick Baker. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel.
