Memorial services for Colonel Morris B. Rubenstein USAF (Ret), 80, will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, conducted by close friend, Dr. Arie Kandel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Morris died at his residence December 19, 2008. Born in Eastover, S.C., on April 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sara Rubenstein. He graduated from The Citadel (1949) and the USAF Air War College. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, served for 30 years and retired from the USAF to work as a manager for Parson’s Brinkerhoff Construction. He was a professional engineer and inventor who held four United States patents, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and earned numerous distinguished awards, medals and citations throughout his career. He was presented with the Bronze Star Medal for heroism during the Vietnam War and was also presented with the Sema Medal by the queen of Thailand for a Civic Aid Program which he established to help the Thai people during the war. After his retirement he enjoyed a busy life, but his leisure time was spent playing tennis, racquetball and fishing (his true love). Colonel Rubenstein is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ravenel; his daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta Rubenstein and Mitch Avent, Debbie and Ernest Garcia; son, Alan Rubenstein; grandson, Robin Rubenstein; grandchildren, Kassi Avent and Brendan Avent, great-grandchildren, Bowie Rubenstein and Dean Rubenstein; sisters, Goldie Morris and Anna Cohen; niece, Myra Little; and nephews, Stephen Langer, Harvey Cohen and Roy Little. Morris will be remembered as an exemplary officer, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the National Parkinson’s Foundation. Tags: 1949
