Michael S.Cruit, 85, of Vero Beach, Fla., died after a long illness on Feb. 23rd, 2014, in Vero Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bette, daughters Caren Mack and Cynthia Darby, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. A graduate of The Citadel, 1951, Mike spent 7 years in the US Air Force, retiring as Captain. He joined the US Foreign Service in 1961 (Agency for International Development) serving as Program Officer in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and The Sudan over a period of 15 years. In retirement, Mike and Bette enjoyed home remodeling; that is, buying “handyman specials” to fix up to sell at proper market prices, in such places as Falls Church, VA, Quechee, Vermont, and Vero Beach, FL, where the tennis courts took first place for recreation and social contacts. Favorite volunteer work in Vero included Meals on Wheels delivery and feline socialization at The Humane Society. Until his death, Mike lived at the Isles of Vero Beach. Contributions in memory of Mike would be welcome at the VNA Hospice House with thanks from Bette and Family. Tags: 1950
