On Saturday, May 1, 2021, Michael Reid Clifton, of Mount Pleasant, loving husband, brother and son, devoted father of three children and friend to many, passed away at the age of 50, at his home in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Born on March 2, 1971, in Salisbury, Michael was a son of Mrs. Bobbie Creasy Clifton and the late Reid Eugene Clifton. From early childhood, his elementary teachers said he could never sit still and that remained true throughout his life. Always on the move, Michael loved playing basketball and carried that passion throughout his whole life into adult league play. He had an entrepreneurial spirit which led him to pursue a business degree at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington where he met the love of his life, fellow Seahawk, Tiffany Baldwin Clifton, his wife of 23 years. They have three children, Michael Reid Clifton, 11, Sarah Grace Clifton, 16, and Whitley Graham Clifton, 14. At UNCW, Michael, as a brother of Kappa Sigma, served as the President of the campus Inter-fraternity Council. Michael’s MBA is from the Citadel. His career landed him in Mt. Pleasant, where he has resided since 1998. Warm and welcoming to all, Michael never knew a stranger. From soccer sidelines to live music venues, he met, made, and entertained many friends. A perfectionist and a master of organization, Michael excelled at home projects, event planning, trip planning, helping neighbors, coaching youth sports teams and much, much more. Nothing made him happier than a day boating the waterways with family and friends. A highly valued member of the same national electrical distributor for more than 25 years, his most recent role as Area Manager for Capital Electric allowed him to share his expertise and leadership skills with clients and co-workers, whom he considered family. Michael’s good-natured personality and sense of humor endeared him to many and he will be missed by all who knew him. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Reid Eugene Clifton. He is survived by his wife, Tiffany Clifton; his children; his mother, Bobble Clifton (Larry Champion); his sister, Malissa Clifton Gillespie (Eugene Gillespie); and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, May 6, at 6 p.m. in the evening at Seacoast Church, 750 Long Point Rd, Mt Pleasant. The service will also be live streamed for remote viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Michael Reid Clifton may be made to a fund that has been set up for the Clifton children’s college fund: https://gofund.me/dc6ab0ff Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at https://www.mcalister-smith.com.
