Martin Marchant Jr. GREENVILLE ù Martin Luther Marchant Jr., 91, of 239 E. Avondale Drive, husband of Josephine Owens Marchant, died Wednesday, August 10, 2005, in St. Francis Hospital, Downtown. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Martin Luther and Kathleen Morrah Marchant. A 1935 graduate of The Citadel, he received his Masters degree from Springfield College in Boston, MA. Mr. Marchant worked with New York Life Insurance Company after retiring from the YMCA in Greenville. After being a camper and counselor at Camp Greenville during the 20Æs and 30Æs, he returned for a 27 year career with the YMCA as Physical Director and then Director of YMCA Camp Greenville. Mr. Marchant was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army Reserves and was a WWII veteran. A lifelong member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday school for many years and was currently a member of the Searchers Sunday School class. Surviving in addition to his wife of 47 years are a son, Martin Luther Marchant III and his wife Sherri of Greenville a brother, Francis ôBubberö Marchant and his wife Mary of Anderson and four grandchildren, Elise, Luke, Phillip, and Emily Kathleen Marchant. Memorials may be made to the YMCA Camp Greenville, PO Box 390, Cedar Mountain, NC 28718. Visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2005, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Springwood Cemetery.
