Mark Raymond Erickson, of Pflugerville, Texas, went to be with his Lord on June 3, 2013 at the age of 66 years, at UTMB John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas surrounded by loved ones. Mark was born on April 22, 1947 in Fargo, North Dakota to parents Melvin and Jean Erickson who preceded him in death. Mark has 2 younger brothers Brue and Todd Erickson. Mark married Frankie Erickson on September 11, 1976 and she preceded him in death on June 9, 2001. Mark remarried Joni Adams on December 7, 2001 and divorced in 2011. Mark attended The Citadel after graduating from Robert E. Lee High School and joined the Air Force during which he served in Vietnam, his final rank was Major. After leaving the Air Force Mark began his employment with American Airlines and he was with them until 2001 when he retired as Captain. Mark was happiest flying the friendly skies. After retirement Mark started teaching Social Studies/ Science at Alief School in Houston, Texas and later moved to Pflugerville, Texas and began teaching computer classes at Walsh Middle School in Round Rock, Texas. He retired from teaching in 2012 to move to Texas City, Texas so he could be closer to his grandson. Mark began work part time in Marketing for Apostle Home Health Care in May 2013. Mark’s hobbies encompassed being involved in church and the Gideon’s International, in which he was a devoted member for countless years. Mark had double knee replacement surgery in April 2013 so he would be able to play with his grandson Gideon more and help with the new one on the way. Mark is survived by his daughter, Holly Erickson and son in law, Bryan Hayes II, and grandson, Gideon Richard Hayes, second grandson (due in September) Jude Mark Hayes of Texas City, Texas; daughter, Heather Erickson, and her furry child Dylan or PC (as Mark called her) of Texas City, Texas; stepfather, Robert Goodwin of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Bruce Erickson and Carol Erickson of Houston, Texas (Tel Aviv, Israel), brother, Todd Erickson and Nancy Erickson of San Antonio, Texas; nephews, Michael Erickson, Kevin Erickson, Garth Erickson and nieces Stacey Erickson and Kate Erickson. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 200 Farm to Market 517 Dickinson, TX 77539.
