Robert A. Rosenblum died peacefully on December 23, at the age of 83, after a long and debilitating illness. He born October 11, 1925 in New York, son of Rose L. Rosenblum and Col. Abraham J. Rosenblum. He attended The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina; New York University and received an MBA from Columbia University. He left The Citadel in 1943 to volunteer to serve in North Africa during WWII, rather than wait for his commission. Following the War he returned to the US, where he completed his education, received his MBA and married Judith Raumann in 1953. As an officer in the Reserves, he continued his connection with the military, ultimately being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from the military in 1961, but was referred to as “”The Colonel”” by his friends and neighbors in the Five Towns, Long Island for most of his life. He owned and ran an independent insurance brokerage in Manhattan, but still found time for a wide range of community activities. He was Commodore of the Woodmere Bay Yacht Club in East Rockaway, NY; he was an active participant at Temple Sinai, in Cedarhurst, NY, where he served as President of the Men’s Club and where he relished his acting roles in the community theatre group; he taught at The State University of NY at Farmingdale and at Pace College in Manhattan. Leaving Cedarhurst in the 1980s, he moved to Manhattan and divided his time between New York, Westhampton Beach and Key Biscayne, Florida; to which he retired in 2003. Ever the avid military man, he started every morning of his life with the same rigid exercise regimen that has been inculcated into him in The Citadel at age 17. An avid reader, he was incredibly strong, and he fought to the very end, a product of a longtime of military bearing. he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith Rosenblum (Zador); his daughter Amy Rosenblum and son-in-law Ted Savaglio; his son Michael Rosenblum and his wife Lisa; and two grandchildren, Adam and Brett Savaglio; his brother Lt. General Donald E. Rosenblum and Nancy of Savannah, Georgia, Sister-in law Betty Piccoli, Milan, Italy and nine nieces and nephews.
