Ret. Lieutenant Colonel MARTINEZ, Ga. – LTC Lloyd E. Gomes, 71, U.S. Army retired, of Martinez, entered into rest on October 17, 2005 at the St. Joseph Hospice. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2005, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Roverse celebrant. Interment with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. He served 20 years in the Army and had tours of duty in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Hawaii and in the continental United States. Among his awards and decorations, he prized mostly his parachutist badge and Bronze Star Medal. LTC Gomes was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and was a youngster during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He graduated from St. Louis High School in Hawaii, received a B.S. degree and commissioned as a 2nd Lt. of Infantry from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. While a cadet, hewas a member of the Sommerall Guards. He also received a B.A. degree from the International Division of Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan and an MBA from Pepperdine University in California. LTC Gomes is survived by his wife, Edna F. Gomes of Martinez; his mother, Ida Gomes of Honolulu; a sister, Mrs. Charlotte White also of Honolulu; a son, Gary A. Gomes of Evans; and daughters, Lynn E. Rhea of Martinez and Denise A. Whitaker of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandsons, Brian Whitaker of Atlanta, Jeffrey Whitaker of Nashville, Tenn., Nicholas Rhea of Martinez, and Jordan Gomes of Evans. LTC Gomes was preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene A. Clark of Augusta. The family will greet friends on the day of the service at the Church at 1:00 p.m. until service time.
