Lloyd Barcroft Williams, Jr., husband of Susan Walker Taylor Williams, of Summerville, SC, died Friday, November 5, 2010, at his residence. A memorial service will be held Tuesday morning, November 9, 2010, at Bethany United Methodist Church at 11:30 o’clock. The inurnment will be private. The family will receive friends Monday evening November 8, 2010, at the residence, 105 West Walker Drive, Summerville, SC 29483 from 5 until 7 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suzanne and Lloyd Williams Endowment Fund of The Coastal Community Foundation, 90 Mary Street, Charleston, SC 29403. Mr. Williams, a son of Lloyd Barcroft Williams, Sr. and Mary Blackwell Williams, was born February 1, 1924, at Mercy Maternity Hospital, at the corner of Ashley Avenue and Bee Street, Charleston, SC. He attended James Simons Grammar School and graduated from Charleston High School where he participated on the golf team, the boxing team and in other extra-curricular activities. He was a member of the Citadel Class of 1944 which after three years was called into service in the US Army. He soon transferred into the US Marine Corps where he served in the Pacific Theater, participating in the invasion of Okinawa and was there when World War II ended. He was discharged with the rank of Captain. Most of Mr. Williams working years were spent employed by Thomas and Howard Company which in later years merged with Wetterau, Inc. After his retirement, he was involved in various retail store development activities. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and was a lifelong Methodist serving in many capacities. He also served with numerous civic organizations. He was a member, along with his special friends, of several golf groups, including the HOBOS and Southern Food Dealers Association. Survivors include his wife, Susan Walker Taylor Williams of Summerville; four children, Lloyd Barcroft Williams, III (Victoria) of Isle of Palms, Frances Williams Furr (Hurley) of Wadmalaw Island; David Pinkney Williams (Chrissy) of Awendaw; Thomas Watson Williams (Marie) of Pawley’s Island; three step-children, Ellen Taylor Oldland (William D.) of Cheraw, Dr. Susan Taylor Woollen (Dr. T. Hayes) of Charlotte, Joseph Taliaferro Taylor, IV (Kimberly) of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Lloyd B. Williams IV (Kristin), Rachel W. Williams, David Olin Williams, Francie Green (Chris), Stella Williams, Thomas W. Williams, Jr., Mary Grace Thorn (Chase), Molly Marie Williams; eight step-grandchildren, William L. Oldland, Daniel T. Oldland, S. Taylor Woollen, T. Hayes Woollen, III, Margaret H. Woollen, Lauren E. Taylor, Marie C. Demetriades, Reese W. Taylor. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Grace Imogene Watson Williams, his brother, Ned Blackwell Williams, and grandson Ned Blackwell Williams.
