Born on November 2, 1956, in Shirley, Massachusetts, and was the first-born son of (the late) Lewis Jackson Cauthen II and (the late) Shirley Cauthen. Due to Lew’s father’s military service, the family moved often and lived in Germany, Virginia, but eventually settled back home in Mount Pleasant, SC. Lew graduated from the Citadel in 1978 and moved on to study dentistry at MUSC. Shortly after receiving his Doctor of Dental Medicine, he moved to York, SC where he established Cauthen Family Dental Care.
Lew loved his family, The Citadel, Carolina Panthers, and Clemson in that order. There wasn’t much that could keep him away from a good football game except the beach or golf. He created many memories by the water with his kids. Lew will also be remembered for his knack to know a little about everything which proved him to be the best teammate at trivia nights or always the first to shout out the answer during Jeopardy. His family will hold many special memories of their time with their father, husband, and brother.
Lew’s family invites those who knew and loved him to celebrate his life and share memories at his favorite place to enjoy trivia and sports. The gathering will take place at Ireland’s Own Pub, 3025 Ashley Town Center Dr, Charleston, SC 29414 on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 3 PM -7 PM.
