Leon Ernest Perrow, of Naples, Fla., left his worldly home on January 17th, 2021. He fought a 26 day battle with the evil COVID pneumonia, after flying from Maine to Florida in December. He followed all the rules since it began, yet it took him only 4 weeks before the vaccine came out! Our greatest wish is that Drs will find a way to let loved ones be with their sick and dying family member. It was devastating. He was cared for by 2 special nurses, Monica and Jennifer, and a team of heroes, at Physicians Regional Collier Blvd.
Ernie was a dashing, devoted, and loving husband and father. He existed for his wife and kids. He attributed his happy marriage to humor. He could do almost anything, except survive COVID. He could fix mechanical and electrical things. He loved antique boats, cars, planes, camping and hunting. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Colonel Ernest and Louise Perrow of Maine. He went to schools in Bangor and Belfast, Me., St Augustine and West Palm Beach, Fl. He graduated from the Military College, The Citadel, in 1967 and attended law school in South Carolina. In 1976 he met and married Kristi Pierson, daughter of O.P.Pierson (inventor of the Frozen French Fry) and Frances Hewitt Pierson, while he was stationed at Loring Air Force Base as a B-52 pilot. While flying over Vietnam, Ernie’s B 52 got so badly shot up it barely landed without crashing. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and many other medals. He also served as USAF Foreign Liaison Officer for foreign students who came to the USA to learn to fly. In 1979 they had their daughter Sharney and in 1986 came their son Chad. He had a long career in various entrepreneurial ventures including condo manager of 700 units in Naples. Summers were spent at his favorite place on earth, the “camp” at North Twin Lake overlooking Maine’s highest mountain, Mt. Katahdin. Ernie will be celebrated in Naples on his birthday, March 21, location TBD. He leaves behind his inconsolable wife and 2 adult children, as well as special family members and friends. He was and forever will be so proud of his family as they were of him. To all those who loved him tune into his frequency. You’ll know when the signs are from him.
