Laurence Glenn Malcom, age 68, beloved husband of Nelva DeHaan Malcom, died on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at KershawHealth Medical Center at Camden. Mr. Malcom was born on Aug. 16, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late John and Dorthea Malcom. He was a graduate of The Citadel and served with the U.S. Navy. He later retired as a chief and was an active member of the Republican Party. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay speaker. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Mark Alan Schuitema of Dalzell and Mitchell Lee Malcom of Cross; a daughter, Victoria Lyn Butler of Summerville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Malcom, and a sister, Jan Steiber. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. John United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Huggins and the Rev. Roye Lynn Kulick officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery, Moncks Corner.
