Luther Stanley “Stan” Trussell, 79, husband of Martha Petrey Trussell, of Hanahan, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Agape Hospice House.
Born on August 27, 1946, in Charleston, South Carolina, Stan was the son of the late Luther Oliver Trussell and Thelma Gilchrist Trussell. He graduated from First Baptist School in Charleston in 1963 and earned his undergraduate degree from Furman University in 1967. A loyal Furman alumnus, he greatly enjoyed following Furman athletics and attending Furman University football games.
Following college, Stan proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he joined his father in managing the family business, the Piggly Wiggly in Hanahan. Committed to continuing his education, he later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from The Citadel.
Stan took great pride in supporting his children’s activities. He coached youth sports and attended many ball games and band performances. He enjoyed playing golf, was an avid amateur radio (ham radio) operator, and valued his involvement in the community. He was an active member of the Hanahan Exchange Club, the Hanahan Band Boosters, and was a faithful member of Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, Martha, Stan is survived by his children: Ernest Edwin Trussell; Elizabeth Trussell Hammett (Landon); Nancy Ellen Trussell; and Mary Kathryn Trussell Wren (Sean); his grandchildren: Braeden Hammett, Addyson Hammett, Kylie Hammett, Liam Latcham, and Ellie Latcham. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Stan was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Trussell Swift, and his brother, Joseph Randolph Trussell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, 5931 Murray Drive, Hanahan, South Carolina 29410. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church or Water Mission International.
