Lemuel David Wyly, Jr., 88, of Atlanta, died Sunday, September 5, 2004. David was born August 9, 1916 in Seneca, SC to Lemuel David Wyly, Sr. and Mary Julia Reid Wyly. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Estelle Bruggemann Wyly of Charleston, SC; his son, Reverend Dr. L. David Wyly, III and wife, Marsha; his daughter, Gay Grayson Patterson and husband, Steve; granddaughter, Gloria Wyly Mock and husband, Matthew; granddaughter, Robin Wyly Nordman and husband, Rob; grandson, Jeffrey Grayson and wife, Limin; and two great grandchildren, Christina and Johnathon. He is survived by his brother, Dr. W. Reid Wyly and wife, Lois Ann. Lemuel David Wyly was a graduate of the Citadel, received his Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Yale University. He began his teaching and research career at Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Tech, in 1939. During WWII he left Georgia Tech to serve his nation as a Major in the United States Army. At the end of the war David returned to the Physics Department at Georgia Tech where he was appointed Regents Professor. He remained at Georgia Tech until his retirement in 1983. A service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, NW, Atlanta on Wednesday, September 8, at 4:00.
