Jule Duncan Wheatly, 61, of Beaufort, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at home. His service is at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the rector, the Rev. John Carlisto officiating and the associate rector, the Rev. Paul Head, and the Rev. Thomas Midyette, assisting. He was born in Morehead City on July 19, 1950, to Claud R. Wheatly Jr. and the late Alice Aiken Wheatly. Mr. Wheatly was a 1972 graduate of The Citadel. He married Nancy Taylor at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Aug. 9, 1975. He was president of Beaufort Fisheries until his retirement in 2003. He served as chairman of the Carteret General Hospital Board of Directors and the Carteret County Republican Party. He was a member of the N.C. Fisheries Commission and the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Council. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wheatly; daughter, Anne Wheatly of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Duncan Wheatly and wife Holly of High Point and John Wheatly of Asheville; father, Claud R. Wheatly Jr., of Beaufort; brothers, Claud R. Wheatly III and wife Joyce, David A. Wheatly and George Edward Wheatly and wife, Sandra, all of Beaufort; and grandchildren, Mary Wheatly and Will Wheatly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Aiken Wheatly. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Brooks Funeral Home.
